I just spotted these adorable planters on Etsy and I think my dear bike needs one. You attach the planter to your bike and add your own wee plant.What a nifty idea. My bike basket is already tricked out with plastic flowers and I always gets lots of compliments, this would just knock it off the charts!

Deep South Slaw

The long weekend is coming! Hopefully there are barbeques galore lined up. I made a delicious Deep South Coleslaw from Vegetarian Times the other day that was creamy, crunchy and had a little spicy kick. Perfect for any Canada Day barbeque this weekend.

Is any drink more Canadian than beer? Summer just wouldn't be summer without the sight of Canadian guys milling about with their beers in hand, whether it is at barbeques, cottages or on patios. Rhubarb Strawberry Tarts

Recently I vowed that I was going to start eating healthier again. All the summer festivities and ice cream were starting to get to me. Then I saw local strawberries at the market (still so tiny and so sweet!) and a friend gave me rhubarb, right out of her garden and my resolve flew out the window. I had to make tarts. I used Lucy Waverman's mini galette recipe and they turned out yummy and juicy, tart and sweet. It's really like eating a fruit salad in a pastry bowl. That's super healthy, right?

Reflective Bike Vest

I am completely smitten with this reflective bike vest I found on Frolic. Safety and style with a nautical nod thrown in the mix, How can a girl go wrong? It is so cute but Iwas crushed when I could not find it on the website. Luckily, I found a D.I.Y. tutorial here. Aprons will have to wait for a while. I may have to sew up one of these adorable babies as soon as possible. Safety first!

Three cheers for the official start of summer and the longest day of the year! Bring on the lazy, hazy days of picnics, midnight bike rides and swimming in lakes! Hurray for sundresses and watermelon, drinking lemonade from frosty glasses sweating with condensation. Welcome summer!

Mexican Rice

I love a good Mexican feast with all the trimmings. It always reminds me of sunny days and lazy times on patios. A frosty Corona with lime or a margarita never hurts either. I found a recipe for Mexican rice here and it couldn't be easier, leaving time for another margarita and swinging in a hammock. I would serve it as a side, topped with chopped green onions and cilantro, or stuffed in a burrito with black beans and salsa. Yummy!

Last Minute Idea for Dad

Bacon Overload

Is nothing and no one immune to the salty allure of bacon? I know hardcore vegetarians who still wax nostalgic about bacon. I know people who can't imagine their pancakes without having bacon to dip in their maple syrup. There is a lot of bacon love out there. Naturally I had to add a bacon themed apron to our men's collection and contribute to the smoky adoration.

I just saw that Burger King in the U.S. has introduced a bacon sundae to their summer menu: ice cream with fudge and caramel sauce topped with bacon. I don't know whether to be impressed or appalled. I have a feeling there will be a few road trips across the border for some diehard bacon fans this summer.

Don't Disappoint Dad!

You're not still hemming and hawing about what to get dear old dad are you? There's not a lot of hawing time left! Today is the last day to guarantee delivery of our fabulous men's aprons in time for Father's Day, (you have until Wednesday if you live in the GTA). How are you going to feel when dad gets a giant smear of barbecue sauce all over his Sunday best and you know that you could have prevented it, if only you'd ordered him an apron in time. Bill Cunningham New York

I finally had a chance to watch the delightful Bill Cunningham New York, the doc about the New York Times fashion photographer. He is over eighty years old, rides his bike everywhere and has an enduring eye for fashion, snapping high society and street style with equal flair and zeal. He is absolutely adorable and filled with joy, grinning from ear to ear as he snaps his subjects, disarmingly childlike and endearing. I've never seen Anna Wintour speak so glowingly and lovingly about anyone before. He is utterly charming and his eye for fashion is extraordinary.

Stop Aftershave Abuse!
