And the Oscar Goes To...

There are some really good movies in the running for best picture this year at the Oscars...or so I hear they are good. I love movies but am generally pretty slow to actually seeing them. Of those on the nominated list, I have seen two: Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty. Both were extremely violent, but both were also outstanding stories.   

Although I have not seen many of the movies, this does not stop me from hosting an Oscar's party. Any reason to have a party works for me! I'm working on a movie themed game and of course we'll have the ballots. As per usual, because of my lack-of-movie-viewing, my ballot will be filled with guesses based on what my friends who have actually seen the movies say or what the entertainment shows have just reported as the front runners in each category.

Food wise there are a myriad of ideas. Here are a few movie-themed suggestions for you to use at your own Oscar's party:

It's Oscar Night!

It's the big night! Time to ogle the rich and famous and salivate over the dresses and jewels! I am sure Michelle Williams will look as adorable as always, can't wait to see what all my other favourites will be wearing.

I am having a potluck Oscars party so that there is less stress and more time for heckling the stars. One of the guests is bringing these lovely popcorn tubs, elevating our snacks to a new level. There will be Oscar themed Pictionary with prizes in a room filled with highly competitive guests, so the stakes are going to be high. Fun times!

Cozy Oscar Party

The Academy Awards are this weekend and I am not in the mood to get all glammed up for a fancy Oscar party. Instead, I will invite a couple of girlfriends over to don their sweats and join me on the couch. We will criticize the outfits and speeches to our hearts content, suffer through the boring acceptance speeches and roll our eyes during the painful musical numbers. As I watch the actresses trying to breathe in their impossible dresses, I will feel grateful that I can snack with abandon and not worry about exploding out of a gown.

Naturally, many snacks will be in order for such a long night and what better choice than popcorn. I decided on an assortment of savory and sweet popcorns and chilled Prosecco seems like a festive sparkly accompaniment. We will be well stocked for a night of armchair heckling.
