Crazy Cat Lady

I was in Urban Outfitters with a girlfriend when we both spotted plate with a cat on it at the same time. Not just any cat mind you. This was a magical, hypnotizing cat. We both grabbed a plate and started squealing.

"Look at those eyes!" She exclaimed."He's trying so hard to tell me something!"

It's true. He was. That cat had a lot to say and had a very expressive mouth and eyes.

"We have to get these!" She shrieked, sounding like she was on the verge of hysteria. "Imagine when I have you over for tea and cookies and this guy is under a cookie!"

It was a thrilling thought and I was falling deeper and deeper in love the more I stared at the kitty face.

"Won't this cement us as crazy cat ladies though?" I asked, imagining sweatshirts with cats wearing cowboy boots and needlepoint pictures of kittens with balls of string looming in our future.

My friend wasn't listening. I found her cradling a pillow shaped like a cat.

I managed to wrestle the pillow away from her, but we both walked out with the cat plates. If I am a crazy cat lady, so be it.

Adorable Animal Glasses

It is official. I am a sucker. Put an animal on anything and I am going to get excited. I defy anyone to resist these adorable glasses by Jessica Rust Designs. I saw them here and instantly fell in love. I instantly began fantasizing about how much cuter all beverages would be in these charming glasses.

Not only are the glasses adorable, they are made from recycled bottles and part of the proceeds go toward Sustainable Futures, an organization that helps the unemployable find work. Cute animals, sustainably made and helping those in need? How can I go wrong? And while I'm at it, there are dinner plates with animals too. Be still my animal loving heart.

Getting on the Egg Train

My acupuncturist is very insistent that I eat an egg every day. She seems to believe that eggs are some sort of miracle food. The catch is that I am not an egg fan. I think if I had this wonderful egg train it would be a little easier to choo-choose eggs.

Brilliant Picnic Invention

The summer days have been glorious lately and my thoughts have been turning to picnics. I want a basket full of tasty snacks, a bottle of wine, a soft blanket to lounge on, a good book and now this. How perfect! Who wants to worry about spilling their wine or having ants crawling over their cheese when they are in the middle of a particularly good chapter?

Along with a bright sunny day, I think this is a picnic must have.

Pom Pom Puffs of Love

One of my besties married her soul mate last month. They have been together forever and decided to forgo a big splashy wedding and instead do a civil service with their immediate families. They managed to shock all of their friends with their announcement and I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. They are throwing a party for their friends at the beautiful Berkeley Church where the girls can put on pretty dresses (the groom and his buddies are wearing jeans) dance and celebrate. I can't think of a better reason to put on some high heels, paint my nails and wear bright red lipstick.

The other night some girlfriends gathered to make tissue paper pom poms to decorate the venue. The bride found the instructions on the Martha Stewart website, and after fortifying ourselves with Thai take out, we got to work, folding and fluffing. They turned out beautifully and we all felt like crafty superstars. The bride was happy, the girlies were thrilled to have a chance to contribute and we had an opportunity to discuss our shoe and dress choices. It was a lovely evening of crafting and love. Can't wait to see our creations at the venue!

Mother's Day Prepping

Things are swinging into full gear with Mother's Day right around the corner. I have been filling lots of orders for Yummy Mummy aprons. I am happy to know that people are remembering their mamas!

I think I have my Mother's Day plans in order. I will bring my mom a new apron (she is number one Yummy Mummy of course) and some flowers. I found these delicious looking lemon ricotta pancakes on the food network and decided they would be a delightful Mother's Day breakfast treat. I will pair them with fresh berries, a fruit salad, tea, and plenty of hugs.

I saw these lovely free printable PDFs on Oh Happy Day which will elevate any Mother's Day breakfast. They are so cute and an adorable way to personalize a sweet Mother's Day meal.

Spring Cocktails

It has been a long winter and I am ready for some sunshine and warmth. So far it has not been the bright spring I have been waiting for, and I am feeling a little frustrated. What's a girl to do but hit the bottle? I looked on the LCBO site and found a fun spring cocktail aptly named Orange Tulip that promised to be the perfect way to cut through the gloom.

I called a few girlfriends and told them to don something stylish and springlike - no sweaters and clunky boots allowed! I got out my cocktail shaker, put on my Martini Mama apron and and got to work. My girls arrived, the drinks were poured and suddenly it felt a little sunnier in my little abode, even if it was still rainy and gloomy outside.

Last Minute Bunny Cupcake Toppers

I saw these adorable lovelies on papersnitch and was completely enamored. What could be more fitting for topping Easter cupcakes? So adorable and festive. Alas, I didn't get my act together in time to order them for Easter so I decided to improvise and make my own. I printed a clip art rabbit, stuck it on a toothpick and made my own bunny topper. It isn't half as cute, but I figure that the sight of carrot cupcakes will distract any critics before they start analyzing my less than perfect toppers.

Sweetest Bunny Dish

It is too late for this Easter, and truthfully, I am not a boiled egg fan under any circumstances, but I saw this adorable egg holder on Eat Drink Chic, and I am smitten. I would be willing to learn to love boiled eggs if I could have them served to me in this adorable bunny dish.

Easter Carrot Cake

Easter is here and that means two things: chocolate and bunnies. In honour of our cotton tailed chocolate hero, I decided that I would bake a carrot cake. Bunnies love carrots. I baked a good old fashioned one with thick cream cheese icing, because without the icing it would just be a carrot loaf, and no one really gets excited about a carrot loaf, now do they?

I used this recipe which was, ahem, a piece of cake, and it turned out perfectly. Still thrilled by my recent pompom bunting success, I decided to make a fabric cake bunting with scraps of vintage fabric and trusty bamboo skewers. I know the Easter bunny will be pleased.

Painted Bottle Centrepieces

I have been amassing an empty wine bottle stash in the corner of my kitchen, mistakenly thinking that I will eventually return them to the liquor store for the deposit. Instead, my already space challenged kitchen is shrinking before my eyes. How timely then that I saw this delightful tutorial for painted wine bottle centerpieces on ruffleblog.com.

Some bright paint, a few colourful flowers, and I will have a cheery centrepiece for my next dinner party. Plus, I will save myself a trip to the liquor store with a heavy clunky bag of empty bottles that would have made me look like a lush.
